My last hike for 2019 should be five days ago, but as you know, it usually doesn’t happen as you think.
With a lot of anticipation we went towards the Lusatian Mountains with the hope of finding snow. Everything was actually perfect. The weather was not too cold, snow and very motivated.
What you can do once, you can do a second time. Said and done. This time with much more altitude than the first time, I thought on the way there this is nothing today. Intuitively everything has spoken against it, nevertheless I wanted to try it. This time with light trekking shoes and a lighter backpack, what else can go wrong? Unfortunately a lot. The weather did not allow for a view that could have been enjoyed, which is why I spared myself climbing up to the lookout towers, the backpack was the wrong choice, as I had to carry most of the weight on my shoulders and slipping in the foliage and hitting a stone with your buttocks leaves its mark. But no new blisters, no muscle soreness and with 51,9 km my farthest distance that I hiked so far.
Just because no steps are marked on the map does not mean that there are none. And so we had to climb many steps, stairs and ladders to enjoy the most beautiful views.
For the second time on foot I was crossing the border between Germany and the Czech Republic. The view down the cliff was well worth it. For the first time I saw, a group of deer ran past.
At some point came this crazy idea to me, just go hiking a few days in a row. Every day a piece, every day a little further. So I picked out a route: 8 days, every day between 10 and 20 km. So: Oneway Aue – Karlovy Vary, please. Over the Ore Mountains, through forests, passing lakes and even through an industrial area (wuää), down to Karlovy Vary. While the first three days were in constant rain, we could look forward to a little better weather from the fourth day. It does not have to be 30 ° C when hiking, but it does not have to rain either. The last two days we were allowed to enjoy sunshine, which made the low temperatures very pleasant.Every morning when I woke up, my legs felt heavy, hurt and I thought that I would not be able to get through today’s kilometers. But to my surprise, the pain disappeared after the first few meters and I could continue happily. True to the motto: A rolling stone gathers no moss.
With already two visited ruins the day before, it went on Sunday just like that. As you can not see too many ruins but only have not enough time. Since the legs were still a bit tired, I put the distance between the two ruins back by car. Sometimes you just have to be reasonable and give your body a break.
With an enthusiasm for ruins, I followed the calling to Perštejn to look at it and also to the ruins of Šumburk. Thanks to my fantastic orientation ended with climbing, but a visit to Šumburk ruins is worth every effort. With meter-high walls that are still there and a wonderful view, the ideal place to stay.
When family is visiting, they also want to be engaged in something. So I decided to spend a day hiking the Děčínský Sněžník with them. Even though the motivation of one or the other was not so great (which was more because of the one-hour trip than the hiking itself), the enthusiasm for the view into the Central Bohemian Uplands was even greater.
With 20 km from the previous day in the legs, just another 30 km covered. Finally this limit has been achieved. In addition, in a fairy tale forest where you can see the fairies dancing, who definitely deserves his name, the Bohemian Paradise. A forest like a fairy tail book decorated with castles and ruins.
